Renew a Driver’s License

To legally operate a vehicle in any state, you must have a valid driver’s license. The validity period of your license is determined by the state the license was obtained in. Most driver’s licenses are valid for 4 to 10 years, though younger and older drivers in specific states may have more frequent renewals. Approximately 60 days before your license expires, your state Department of Motor Vehicles will send a renewal notice. It is important to update your new mailing address with your Department of Motor Vehicles each time you move so that the renewal notice reaches you.
